As wedding season nears, family and friends may travel from far and wide to be part of your festivities. To make them feel at ease and welcome during their stay.
As with hosting well, writing well requires knowing your reader. The more familiarity with them you have, the greater will be its impact on your writing.
1. Make Sure They Have a Place to Stay
Make sure your guests know where they’re sleeping to reduce confusion and ensure a pleasant stay. This will help to ensure they remain relaxed and content during their visit.
Assemble a list of items they will require during their visit, such as maps, taxi phone numbers and local sightseeing attractions.
Asked them if they have any specific dietary needs or foods they shouldn’t consume. Also inquire as to their daily schedule such as bedtimes and mealtimes.
Sharing the holidays with loved ones can be both enjoyable and demanding, requiring you to change up your routine in unexpected ways.
If for whatever reason you cannot host your guests, be honest about it. Provide them with an acceptable explanation, such as home renovations or health concerns – doing this will avoid awkward conversations down the road.
2. Plan a Welcome Dinner
Welcome dinners are an effective way of setting expectations and welcoming out-of-town guests, and creating one is also a fun way to do this. Consider creating a cocktail or dessert station, serving food unique to your area or providing cultural dishes as options. Also consider creating a photo booth or wall so guests are more inclined to take photos during your event!
Reuniting with family and friends you haven’t seen for some time can be daunting, but using their stay to tackle tasks around the house such as laundry, emptying the fridge and redecorating projects can be very fulfilling. Use stylish room dividers to give each of them their own space during this busy time of year.
3. Make Sure They Have a Place to Stay
If your friends or family members are visiting from out-of-town, it can be nice to offer them a place to stay. Unfortunately, not everyone can accommodate overnight guests. If this situation arises for you personally, being upfront and honest is key; either saying you don’t know if hosting them would work or providing valid reasons why – perhaps your home is under construction, someone else in hospital, etc.
Use an out-of-town guest’s visit as motivation to get everything in order and cross items off your to-do list. Clean the guest bedroom, vacuum carpets, tackle any small home repair projects you have been postponing, clear away clutter around your house and eliminate clutter – this will give you a sense of accomplishment while making guests feel welcome and appreciated! Leave behind a kit with items such as maps of the city, extra tampons, phone chargers, spare light bulbs and scented candles so they feel welcomed and appreciated upon their arrival!
4. Ensure They Have a Place to Stay
Comfortable accommodations for out of town guests is of utmost importance when hosting out of town visitors. From setting out extra bedding, cleaning out the fridge, and finishing minor house repairs and redecorating projects that you have put off until now – providing them with cozy accommodations is key to creating an enjoyable visit for them! Providing exceptional accommodations will set the stage for their visit.
Make sure that your parking area is well-lit, clean, and welcoming for visitors coming by car; this will ease their anxiety during their initial hour or so at your location.
Make sure your out of town guests know about any appointments you have scheduled or children who nap and sleep at certain times so they can plan ahead, helping to prevent surprises or disappointments during their visit and making everyone’s experience more pleasant. Furthermore, let them know what is considered acceptable behavior at your home so they feel safe and relaxed during their stay.
5. Make Sure They Have a Place to Stay
When hosting out-of-town guests, it is essential that they have somewhere comfortable to stay. Be sure that the guest room is tidy, with freshly laundered sheets on the bed, ample towels, and even an adorable wicker basket filled with travel size toiletries for them!
If your home does not have enough space to host guests, it would be prudent to inform them prior to their arrival. Doing this can save much confusion and aggravation! Being upfront will avoid many problems down the line.
Your guests need to understand your daily schedule so they can adjust accordingly, which will avoid any misunderstandings and ensure their stay runs smoothly.
Out-of-town visitors can provide the motivation you need to clean and organize your house before their arrival. Now is a perfect opportunity to finish that pile of laundry, hang up clothes that have been sitting on a chair for too long or tidy up any random clutter spots in your home.
